A Quick History of Jogs For Dogs

Jogs For Dogs was launched in the Spring of 2007 in Seattle, Washington by a recent University of Washington graduate who was convinced he could avoid "real life" for a few more years. Four years later JFD is still running (obviously no pun intended), and doesn't seem to be slowing down!


Originally JFD operated much like a traditional dog walking company, with a couple big differences. First off, JFD doesn't walk, we run! We also don't take groups of dogs, just one at a time, so your pup gets the maximum quality care. With an attention to detail, serious exercise, and customer service, JFD quickly developed a loyal following. Many of our very first clients are still running with us four years later!
Since JFD started we've had the opportunity to run over several hundred dogs, employ over 50 runners, and cover just about 60,000 miles.  Or perhaps more appropriately, enough miles to run around Greenlake (a Seattle Park) just about 20,000 times!

 Almost as soon as JFD began we started to notice an interesting phenomenon. Instead of just being contacted by potential clients, we were getting tons of inquiries from potential employees. It turns out that people want to run dogs! Walking dogs is a job.  But running dogs is fun, a great workout, and a wonderful way to make extra cash.
Our runners over the past four years have included: students, teachers, lawyers, realtors, bar tenders, stay-at-home dads/moms, retirees, nurses, scientist, managers, mechanics, and just about every other type of person you can imagine. If you had a great attitude, loved to run, and were wonderful with dogs then we wanted to hire you!

 

 

JFD 2.0! In 2009 JFD started to expand beyond our home region of the Pacific Northwest. We had mild success but knew that in order to be successful we needed a new model.  Enter JFD 2.0. In the spring of 2011 we finally launched our new website and our new business model! Jogs For Dogs has always been about connecting Dogs and Runners.   Our mission has always been to find the perfect match for Runner and Dog, and that has not changed. What has changed is that we've given Runners and Dog Owners all the control and tools to search and connect on their own, and not just in Seattle, but anywhere there's a Dog that needs a Jog!
